A developer of Bitcoin Core withdraws from the Lightning Network due to a "hard dilemma"

A new class of replacement cycling attacks threatens the Lightning Network, and Antoine Riard thinks the Bitcoin community is in a "hard dilemma" as a result.

The second-layer solution developed on top of the Bitcoin blockchain is called the Lightning Network. By allowing off-chain, peer-to-peer transactions, it aims to increase the scalability and effectiveness of Bitcoin BTC tickers down$29,879 transactions.

Users can establish payment channels, carry out numerous transactions off-chain, then settle the total on the Bitcoin blockchain using the Lightning Network. These payment methods are the focus of the replacement cycling attack. Through the use of discrepancies between different mempools, the attacker can steal money from a channel member using this new attack type. As stated by Riard
